In-Person
Alternative Provision

Specialist, Small-Group Digital Education

Delivered Face to Face

Our In-Person Alternative Provision is a local-authority commissioned service for young people aged 14–25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who are unable to thrive in mainstream education.

SGE supports learners who need a more personalised, structured, and supportive approach. Many are neurodivergent, anxious about education, have social, emotional, or mental health needs, or have become disengaged from learning.

We work in close partnership with local authorities, families, and professionals to deliver a provision that is appropriate, accountable, and outcomes-focused.

A Calm, Structured Learning Environment

Learning takes place at our specialist centre in Newton Abbot, Devon, in small groups with consistent staff. The environment is deliberately calm, predictable, and low-stimulus, with clear routines and expectations aligned to individual needs identified within each learner’s EHCP.

Predictability builds trust.
Trust creates space for learning.

Young people know where they are expected to be, what they are working on, and who is supporting them. This consistency supports emotional regulation, reduces anxiety, and enables sustained engagement with education.

A Curriculum That Scales with the Learner

Our curriculum focuses on applied digital skills that scale with each young person’s confidence, ability, and long-term outcomes as set out in their EHCP. They move at their own pace and grow when they are ready.

We use industry-recognised certifications as a structured learning framework, enabling learners to progress from foundational digital literacy through to genuinely career-relevant technical skills. These certifications provide clear milestones, external validation, and meaningful progression pathways linked to preparation for adulthood.

Certification pathways are introduced when learners are ready, aligned to individual readiness rather than age or prior attainment.

Applied Digital Learning Pathways

Core learning pathways include:

  • Game Development

  • Coding

  • Creative Digital Arts

  • IT & Computer Science Foundations

  • Engineering and robotics

  • Data and AI

  • Cybersecurity

Learning is practical and hands-on. Using industry tools, our students build, test, refine, and problem-solve through real projects, helping abstract concepts become concrete and accessible.

Specialist Staff and Individualised Support

Teaching is delivered by experienced specialist staff, supported by teaching assistants and pastoral care. Small group sizes allow for responsive, differentiated delivery and strong professional relationships.

Provision is informed by each learner’s EHCP outcomes, with teaching strategies and support adapted to meet cognitive, communication, social, emotional, and sensory needs as appropriate.

Tracking Progress and Attendance

We use Arbor MIS to track attendance, engagement, and progress. Parents and carers have access to a live parent portal that allows them to monitor attendance and learning progress in real time. This supports transparency and shared oversight between SGE, families, and commissioning local authorities.

Monitoring, Review, and Accountability

Progress against EHCP outcomes is monitored through attendance data, engagement, skill development, and milestone achievement. Provision is reviewed collaboratively with families and commissioning local authorities, with adjustments made as needed to ensure outcomes remain appropriate and achievable.
